I'm Rick May, and I'm thrilled to embark on a new journey as a solo artist.
Music—specifically bluegrass and gospel has been an integral thread in the fabric of my life. Immersed in the rich musical traditions of Appalachia since childhood, they've shaped my craft and soul in immeasurable ways.Throughout my career, I've had the honor of strumming strings and playing stages with celebrated groups such as 5 For the Gospel and The Goins Brothers.
These experiences have been nothing short of amazing and have deepened my love and understanding of the genre.Now, I stand at the brink of a dream realized—sharing my music with the world.
My debut album, aptly named "Legacy," is a treasure trove of original compositions that resonate with the sound and spirit of bluegrass, infused with the uplifting essence of gospel. "Legacy" isn't just a collection of songs; it's a deeply personal narrative that weaves together the past, present, and future. It has been an incredible privilege to record alongside my children and grandchildren, capturing our family's musical heritage in every note. This intergenerational harmony has given "Legacy" its heart and name.
The joy and connection these songs have brought to those who've heard them spur me forward. Their encouragement is a testament to the power of music to touch lives. It's with great excitement and a humble heart that I prepare to share "Legacy" with you, hoping it will find a special place in your playlists and your hearts.
This album, "Legacy," serves as a tribute to my beloved late wife, Janet May, who ascended to heaven on September 18, 2022. She was undeniably the love of my life, and creating this album has been a way to honor and remember the beautiful life we were fortunate enough to share together. It's a testament to her essence, a celebration of what she meant to me—the best part of me—and our shared legacy. Now, as I continue my journey on this earth with a yearning in my heart to be reunited with her again someday, I find solace and expression in sharing the joy of music and love. Through this, I aim to tell our love story, a narrative that perhaps ends only in physicality but continues deeply in every note and lyric of "Legacy."
